“Imagine Living Here” series and features Arizona’s Sonoran Desert. Alaskan artist Barbara Lavallee illustrates snakes, spiders, birds and other
unusual animals that live on the Sonora Desert – and some of the people who live in the hot, dry desert sands as well. A history of the Salt River Valley begins about 300 B.C. when the Hohokam Indians settled in the area and dug canals from the river to their fields, through completion of the Roosevelt Dam in 1911.
