Description
This is the story of Miyax, a 13-year-old Eskimo girl who incorporates learned ways of the Caucasians into her native Eskimo culture–she is known as Julie to her English-speaking friends.
When Miyax runs away from her village to escape her marriage to Daniel, she must rely on the wolves to help her survive.
When she finally must leave the wilderness, Miyax must decide to continue in her native culture or to enter into the new culture about which she knows little.
This book is the winner of the 1973 Newbery Medal.
