This is the story of the life of Georg Wilhelm Steller (1709-1742), the outstanding European naturalist who was the first to document Alaska’s coastal wildlife. Steller sailed with Vitus Bering on his last voyage across the North Pacific, a voyage marked by terrible hardship and tragedy.
